File format

Set of rules and algorithms organising content in a digital object. When these data are stocked in a file, it is called file format. Such a convention allows the sharing of data between diverse IT programs or software, either by direct connexion or via a file. This possibility to share data between various types of software is called interoperability. The format is identifiable by the suffix attached to the file name (referred to as file extension)
Quotation

1. Extract quoted from one author.

2. Short reference, often as a footnote. It makes it possible to identify the publication from which the extract was taken and to provide its specific location within it. Bibliographic quotations within the text may be found in the references attached at the end of it. Quotations are used to measure the impact of an article and of a review (impact factor)
Special characters

Some characters, such as those from non-Latin alphabets, require using the command
"Insert / Special characters". This command also allows you to add accents onto upper case letters, thereby increasing readability. To ensure correct screen display, be sure to use a Unicode compliant typeface (for instance: Arial Unicode) which will be able to handle conversions into diverse formats designed for online use (such as HTML)

A structured thesis template providing a minimum set of structuring and presentation rules (or styles) to apply when you draw up your thesis
Typography

Typography follows classic dactylographic rules. It applies as a standard in the corpus (for instance: quotations between quotation marks), bibliographic references or the title (use of uppercase letters)

Introduction

When writing and presenting your thesis, you must follow recommendations on presentation released by the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur et de la recherche (Department of Higher Education and Research) as well as by the university or even by the institutions uniting doctoral schools

These recommendations bear on the actual presentation (paper, print, cover), the page layout of the text (margins, line space, numbering), the presentation of quotations, of bibliographic references and of footnotes, in accordance with applicable typographic rules.
